My Bio

I was always very creative though having never produced art until having train-hopped my way from my hometown of Montreal to Vancouver in my early twenties. The introduction to art came along with my active involvement in the graffiti subculture. This led to a journey of learning about arts mainly through mural painting, automotive refinishing and traditional sign painting / gold leafing.

(a great article by the Georgia Straight)
Feeling held back, wanting to evolve beyond the two dimensional constraints of mural and canvas painting, I created 8 avant-garde abstract minimalist wall hanging sculptures. They represent a catalyst in my quest to make my mark on a global level in the in the art world.

I recently designed and coordinated the Beatty Street Mural, commissioned by the City of Vancouver earlier this year. The project continues to receive an unprecedented amount of media attention and has maintained a sense of community engagement through the experimental implementation of a social networking presence. Along with an active Facebook group, videos and photos were released online for free as the project unfolded. The positive results gave me confidence to continue to document and share every project i am involved with in the future. This relationship with the community is the essence of the Strata Socius model.

Another notable accomplishment this year was to help produce a body of work for Rodney Graham. The installations were created for his 2010 "Possible Abstractions" exhibition at the Pablo Picasso Museum in Barcelona. The experience gave me a new, certainly more practical perspective on the ins and outs of producing high quality works. The pieces, called Picados, were created at Urthwurks Studio, owned and operated by Antonio Miliares III. The reason I bring up Tony is because we share the same background: Graffiti writers from the East Coast!

Finally, this year I produced a series of installations in the old Elixir Bistro, now called 100 Days. Works were commissioned by John Evans, Owner of Opus Hotel and Peter Girges from RocksGlass Concepts who recently partnered up with Evans. The design concept came from Robert Bailey. Need to mention that Dino, the popular GM of the Opus was an endless source of creativity and hands-on help. He even created a sculptural light installation with coat hangers!!!!CRAZY. Bottom line is that after 2 months of being open, 100 Days hold the top spot in liquor sales in Vancouver. A "second round" of artwork is planned and in the works. Check out the video!!!
